The system utilizes Allen Bradley SLC 500 and PLC 5 series PLCs and four PCs with Wonderware HMI software. The entire system is networked with Allen Bradley DH+ and 10/100BaseT Ethernet. Extensive manual data entry and historical reporting requirements were met with a custom interface configured between the Wonderware HMI and Microsoft Office products.

Pickens, South Carolina - Roper Lagoon Waste Treatment Plant

Installed a new SCADA system comprised of an Allen Bradley PLC system with a Wonderware HMI software central computer system. This project instrumented an existing facility requiring upgrade to conform to current EPD requirements. The system provides pump control, flume level and flow monitoring and lagoon level monitoring with alarm and historical reporting.

Pickens County, South Carolina - Middle Regional Waste Treatment Plant

Installed a new SCADA system comprised of an Allen Bradley PLC system with a Wonderware HMI software central computer. Communications is accomplished by a fiber-optic Ethernet network. In addition, an off-site computer is used for remote monitoring using Microsoft Remote Access Services Dial-Up Networking and Wonderware Factory Focus. An automatic software-based alarm dial-out notification system is also implemented to alert operators and managers in case of unacknowledged alarm event.

Jackson, Mississippi - O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant

Replaced existing Turbitrol DCU system with Allen Bradley PLC based SCADA system. System was designed as a retrofit of the Customer's existing Turbitrol DCU system and utilizes eleven PLCs networked on existing thick-wire Ethernet, lease-line telemetry, radio telemetry, and fiber-optics. Computers are Compaq Alpha Workstations running Turbitrol's BASElineA5 MMI software product along with networked PC Workstations connected locally and via the City's wide area network. Turbitrol installed its Flow and Level Control System as an upgrade to the project at the Owner's request.

Douglasville / Douglas County, Georgia - Bear Creek Water Treatment Plant

Replaced existing water department SCADA system with a Motorola MOSCAD RTU system and PCs running Wonderware HMI software. Remote communications utilize the existing County-wide Motorola radio trunking system. Added in-plant control panels to the operator interface via MOSCAD I/O over an in-plant RS-485 communications network.

Loxahatchee, Florida - SFWMD Flood Control Structures

PLC based SCADA system for two flood control structures each with a pumping capacity of 2 billion gallons per day. Each system has five fiber-optic networked PLCs with two PCs running Intellution iFix MMI software for process visualization. The systems also interface with the owner's MOSCAD RTU system.

Solon, Ohio - Solon Central Wastewater Treatment Plant

Upgraded existing Turbitrol computer system to Compaq Alpha Workstations running Turbitrol's BASElineA5 MMI software product along with networked DELL PC Workstations. Plant control system utilizes a dual fiber-optic Ethernet network with redundant Allen Bradley PLCs in local control panels as well as at remote lift station sites.

Worcester, Massachusetts - Worcester Water Treatment Plant

Installed multiple DEC Alpha Workstations running Turbitrol's BASElineA5 MMI software product along with remote PC Workstation at Water Department Headquarters connected via wide area network. Plant control system uses a dual fiber-optic Ethernet network with redundant Allen Bradley PLCs in local control panels as well as Allen Bradley PLCs at remote sites.

Atlanta, Georgia - Delta Airlines, Atlanta Hartsfield Airport Fuel Farm

Replaced legacy Turbitrol BASEline3 SCADA system with Modicon Ethernet Quantum PLC system and Wonderware Intouch central computers. Fuel tank levels and temperatures I/O originate in Enraf tank gauges; Enraf data acquisition is accomplished via a custom interface configured with Omniserver from Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc. The system provides data acquisition and custom reporting of all parameters associated with inbound and outbound fuel inventory. Ten constant speed pumps are controlled based on minimum run time to insure that constant fuel pressure is delivered to the flight line, all accomplished during extreme swings in system demand. Approximately 1.5 million gallons of jet fuel is pumped for consumption every day at this facility.

Atlanta, Georgia - City of Atlanta Hartsfield Airport, Airport Group International

Upgraded PC equipment and Wonderware Intouch MMI for this airport fuel farm that supplies jet fuel for multiple carriers including those at many international terminal gates at Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. This Wonderware Intouch MMI interfaces with a Square D PLC and I/O as well as Enraf tank gauges. Jet fuel stored at this location totals approximately 3 million gallons.

Carrollton, Georgia – Carrollton Water Treatment Plant

Turbitrol Company assisted the City in this design-build project and acted as Consulting Engineer as well as instrument and control system designer, integrator and installer. The project replaced existing older in-plant and remote station SCADA equipment. New HMI computers were installed running Windows XP Professional and Wonderware InTouch for process visualization. This project also replaced process monitoring equipment from numerous manufacturers with up-to-date Modicon Momentum PLC hardware. Remote stations were programmed to communicate using the City’s existing dial-up telephone service. A new console desk was added in the existing control room / laboratory in order to maximize the limited space for plant operators.

Fulton County, Georgia – North Fulton Water System Telemetry

For this design / build project, Turbitrol Company provided computer equipment, HMI software, telemetry panels and instrumentation, provided electrical design services and performed a radio survey. The system has a central computer running Wonderware InTouch process visualization software with ten remote RTU stations accessed via multiple radio repeaters. Turbitrol Company manufactured, installed and tested all remote stations, installed all conduit and wire, installed antenna systems and telephone polls, configured all PLC and HMI software in order to supply a turn-key system. A security system is integrated into each remote site for intrusion notification.

Douglasville / Douglas County, Georgia – Lift Station Monitoring and Control

Turbitrol Company functioned as the instrumentation and control system designer and electrical contractor to the Owner in this design / build project. This system consists of two in-plant computers, in-plant network and shared radio trunking system used to provide a man machine interface, reporting and alarming for remote lift station facilities. Turbitrol Company provided Professional Engineering Design Services, configuration, programming, electrical installation and startup of all furnished equipment. Using Wonderware InTouch HMI for process visualization and SCADAlarm event notification software, this SCADA system addition provides centralized monitoring of all lift stations with voice and digital alarm paging and remote access to alarm data and system status.

Douglasville / Douglas County, Georgia – SouthCentral Wastewater Treatment Plant

Turbitrol has been selected as the sole source instrument and control system supplier for the new 6MGD Wastewater Treatment Plant in Douglasville, Georgia. The owner is the Douglasville-Douglas County Water and Sewer Authority and the Owner’s Engineer is Jordan Jones & Goulding. With its completion, this new facility will be one of several major facilities providing wastewater treatment for the Authority and in the process eliminates several smaller existing facilities.

The SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system for this site consists of dual, redundant HMI computers on a common LAN with intelligent PLC-based distributed I/O system connected by an Ethernet Network using a fiber optic ring medium. By incorporating such a system, the Owner is able to reduce significantly the amount of wire and conduit in the plant and also provide significant improvements in data acquisition and process control. Backup process control and monitoring is provided by local controls placed throughout the plant at major process centers.

This new facility also includes provision for remote data acquisition and the ultimate incorporation of monitoring and alarming dispatch services for the Authority’s county-wide Lift Station network. Communication to these sites will be accomplished through a Motorola radio based trunking system. This system is a shared system with both the Douglasville city police and fire services.
